About Hao's Work

I am a Postdoctoral Scientist at the Earth and Society Research Hub (ESRAH) at the University of Hamburg. I am also affiliated with the Cluster of Excellence “Climate, Climatic Change, and Society (CLICCS),” where I contribute to Project C2: Sustainable Land-use Scenarios. Prior to joining the University of Hamburg, I earned my PhD in Geography from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, in 2024.

As a conservation geographer and land system scientist, my research intersects conservation science, land system dynamics, geospatial analysis, and ecological economics. My recent work focuses on systematic conservation planning and conservation impact evaluation.

Currently, I serve as one of the lead scientists on the SQUEEZE project (https://squeeze-project.netlify.app/), funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space of Germany (BMFTR). In this role, I work seamlessly with research partners to evaluate the conservation status of Arctic tundra, assess how well current protected areas safeguard ecoregions and species, and develop systematic conservation plans for a sustainable, socially acceptable, circum-Arctic protected tundra network.

I actively seek opportunities to collaborate with researchers and practitioners across disciplines, and I welcome inquiries regarding potential collaborations to advance shared goals in conservation and sustainability.
