About Girma Mulu's Work
I am Girma Mulu Alemu, an Ethiopian native with a BA in Sociology, a Master of Science in Urban Planning and Development, and a second Master's degree in Urban Management and Development. I have served as a Sociologist at the Borena Zone Water Supply and Irrigation Development Authority Office, an Urban Land Use and Renewal Expert at East Shoa Zone Urban Land Management and Development Office, and a Lecturer at Haramaya University.
Currently, I am pursuing a Ph.D. at Ardhi University/TU Dortmund, and my research topic is "Contentious Peri-Urbanization: Analyzing Socioeconomic Effects on , Smallholder Farmers in Peri-Urban Areas of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia." This research addresses critical issues surrounding urban development and its impact on peri-urban , Smallholder farmers.
I aspire to complete my Ph.D. and leverage the knowledge gained to drive positive change in Ethiopia and Africa at large. Through research, teaching, and international collaboration, I aim to contribute to policy reforms and equitable urban planning practices. After my doctoral studies, I will go back to Haramaya University where I will contribute to mentoring early career scholars of the next generations.
