About Georg's Work
Georg Kraft obtained his Bachelor's degree in Geography from LMU Munich in 2022 and his Master’s degree in Geography from KU Leuven in 2024. During his studies, he gained valuable experience in both industry and research. He worked in digital infrastructure consulting at PwC, supporting the public sector in Germany at the municipal, state, and federal levels. He also contributed to transport research at the German Aerospace Center’s Institute of Transport Research, where he evaluated national public transport systems in Germany. Additionally, he worked at the Royal Museum for Central Africa, assessing the social vulnerability of the population in Goma, DRC, using survey data and Earth Observation/Remote Sensing.
In October 2024, Georg began his PhD research at VITO (Flemish Institute for Technological Research) and KU Leuven. His project focuses on enhancing the GeoDynamiX land use model by integrating socio-economic factors, particularly for the region of Flanders. The research addresses key societal challenges such as demographic shifts, climate adaptation, and increasing urban complexity. By combining agent-based models with cellular automata, the aim is to equip policymakers with more powerful tools for sustainable development and equitable spatial planning in response to socio-environmental challenges.
