About Gabriela's Work

I am a researcher working at the intersection of political ecology and land-use science, focusing on the Amazon and the Cerrado. I collaborate with local communities to understand and elevate their crucial contributions to the social, economic and environmental transformations needed for a more sustainable world. My work further includes assessing the socioenvironmental impacts of commodity production and uncovering related human rights violations. As a woman from the Global South, I adopt a critical perspective to examine land-use dynamics, governance structures and patterns of socioenvironmental (in)justice in rural Brazil, striving to bring visibility, support and valorization to the actors driving meaningful change.
