About Firdissa's Work
Dr. Firdissa Sadeta Tiye (born 1985) is an Ethiopian scholar and geospatial researcher specializing in climate change adaptation and mitigation, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and environmental studies. He has completed his doctoral studies in Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation at Jimma University and is awaiting his dissertation defense.
Dr. Firdissa holds an MSc in Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing from Jimma University (2020–2022) and an MSc in Environmental Science from Wollega University (2018–2021). He earned both his MA (2005–2007) and BA (2002–2004) in Geography and Environmental Studies from Addis Ababa University.
He served as a Senior Lecturer and Researcher at Wollega University from 2009 to March 2025, contributing extensively to teaching, research, and academic mentorship in geography and environmental sciences. Since May 2025, he has been working as a Researcher at the Ethiopian Space Science and Geospatial Institute, where he focuses on geospatial technologies and climate-related research initiatives.
His academic and professional work centers on the application of GIS and remote sensing for environmental management, climate resilience, and sustainable development in Ethiopia.
