About Fabio's Work
Fábio de Castro is assistant Professor at the Centre for Latin American Research and Documentation at the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands. He is an environmental anthropologist with MSc in Ecology in 1992 (State University of Campinas, Brazil) and PhD in Environmental Science/Anthropology in 2000 (Indiana University, USA). He is interested in the socio-ecological processes shaping patterns of resource use and management, and landscape transformation. His research focuses on local production systems and governance of natural resources, and the dilemma between conservation and development goals at local and broader scales. His research has an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary perspective, combining social and natural science, and knowledge co-production with producers, practitioners and small businesses. His recent research interest includes sociobioeconomy in the Amazon, socioenvironmental policies in Brazil, and climate and environmental justice movements in Latin America.
