About Esther's Work
Esther Sanz Sanz works currently as a researcher on the possibilities of relocating cities food provision and the development of food planning tools, especially considering the role of peri-urban farmland and public food school procurement in planning. In this field, her research focus on the integration of peri-urban agriculture in urban and regional (subnational) planning by the means of landscape metrics and indices. Furthermore, she brings together participatory approaches (living labs) and spatial simulation models (predictive/economic modelling).
She holds a PhD of Social Sciences in Urban Studies (EHESS, France) and in Geography (UAM, Spain) and she holds a master and B.A. in Architecture and Urban Planning (UPM, Spain) as well as a master in Social Sciences and Territorial Development (EHESS, France). Before working as a researcher, Esther had a career as an architect, urban planner and designer, and also participated in development programs.
