About Edzo's Work

Research of my group focusses on the effects of land use, land use changes and land use intensification on soil-atmosphere greenhouse gas fluxes and soil carbon stocks. This also includes research on alternative management strategies to reduce negative impacts on ecosystem services. We collaborate with scientists of many different disciplines to develop and test robust assessment systems for land use in which environmental, economic and social criteria, and their interactions are integrated. Most of our work focusses on tropical countries where we work across a range of scales from local and landscape scale to (sub-) national scale, however we also strive to derive general principles underlying current and future land use effects on ecosystem services that can be applied at global scale.
