About Dr. Shafi Noor's Work
Dr. Shafi Noor Islam is Senior Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography and Sustainability (GS), Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Brunei Darussalam. He hold Ph.D. in Environmental and Resource Management from Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg, Germany. Dr. Islam was working as Lecturer at the Technical University of Berlin, and Lecturer of Euro Aquae Hydro-Informatics of Erasmus Mondus at the BTU Cottbus, Germany. He also worked as visiting lecturer at Halmstad University, Sweden. He has Post-Doctoral experience and presently is a candidate for Habilitation (Dr.rer.nat.habil.) on the research topic “Ecosystem Services and Food Security/Sovereignty under Threat in the Mega Deltas of Asian Coastal Regions: An Analysis on the Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna Rivers Delta” at the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg, Germany. His main activities are in interdisciplinary water resource research on water salinity and mangrove ecosystem modeling. Heritage conservation, climate change impacts on the river system and Food Security/Sovereignty and ecosystem services. Earth Observation/Remote Sensing and GIS application in Geography and Environmental problems analysis and modeling are his focus research fields. He has published over 101 articles in international journals and as book chapters. He published 2 books. He is teaching the following courses in undergraduate and graduate-level: 1) Landuse and Development, 2) Wetland Ecology and Management, 3) Introduction to Earth Observation/Remote Sensing, 4) Introduction to Geomatics, 5) Sustainability Research through experiential learning, 6) Research projects on Landuse and Landcover Changes due to climate change and human Influences, 7) Rainforest management and Mangrove wetland Ecosystem maintenance.
