About Dinesh's Work
Dr. G. K. Dinesh (Govindaraj Kamalam Dinesh) is an Assistant Professor of Environmental Sciences at the College of Agriculture, Iroisemba, Central Agricultural University, Imphal, India, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India. He earned his PhD in Environmental Science from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR), New Delhi, ranking fifth nationally and receiving the IARI Ph.D. Senior Research Fellowship through a national entrance exam. Additionally, he has been honoured with the ‘Young Advantage Fellow’ award from the Institute of Biosciences, USA, and holds an honorary Research Fellow position at INTI International University, Malaysia. Dr. Dinesh completed his undergraduate studies in Agriculture at Annamalai University, Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu, India, and his Master’s degree in Environmental Science with a focus on Agriculture from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. During his Master’s programme, he was awarded a fellowship for academic excellence through the Student Junior Research Fellowship under the TNAU-Private Industrial Agency Scheme (Sakthi Sugars Pvt. Ltd.) and conducted a long-term impact assessment study on distillery effluent application on soil, cassava, and jasmine crops. His Master’s thesis investigated the ecology of birds and insects in organic and inorganic paddy ecosystems. He has qualified multiple times for the ICAR and UGC National Eligibility Tests for Professorship. His PhD research, centred on conservation agriculture and ecosystem services valuation, was supported by the University Grants Commission (UGC), Government of India, through the UGC Junior Research Fellowship. His work has been recognised as significant by the Division of Environmental Science at ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, India. Dr. Dinesh’s research expertise includes carbon sequestration, ecosystem services, agroecology, climate-smart agriculture, farming systems, sustainable agriculture, crop simulation modelling, greenhouse gas emissions, agrobiodiversity, bioremediation, economic ornithology, waste recycling, and pollution control. He has presented his research at many national and international conferences, earning awards such as the ‘Best Oral Paper Presentation Award’, ‘Best M.Sc. Thesis Award’, and the ‘Young Researcher Award for Excellence in Research’. He has authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications, more than 10 edited or authored books, over 15 book chapters, and more than 70 popular scientific articles in national and international journals and magazines. His work has received over 360 citations, an h-index of 10, and a cumulative impact factor exceeding 40. Outside academia, Dr. Dinesh has translated several technical documents, including the draft Environmental Impact Assessment report by the Government of India. Since June 2024, he has served as a Lead at the prestigious Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Geneva, and as a Subject Expert Member on the Book Selection Committee for Public Libraries under the Government of Tamil Nadu. He is also an expert member of various organisations, including the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome, and has experience as a journalist and editorial member for leading magazines. Additionally, he is the Editor-in-Chief of the peer-reviewed Enlighten Agriculture magazine and sits on the editorial boards of several national and international journals. His mission is to serve marginalised communities, bridge the gap between science and society, and promote an inclusive and dialogic classroom environment. Currently, he is involved in writing and editing books for recognised publishers such as CRC Press (UK), Nova Science (USA), and Bentham Science Publishers (UAE).
