About Danesto's Work
Danesto “dane” B. Anacio finished his PhD in Environmental Science at the School of Environmental Science and Management (SESAM), University of the Philippines Los Baños. His main research interests focus on socio-ecological systems change and human-resource interactions as manifested in production and consumption patterns, indigenous peoples’ rituals, environmental psychology, and human dimensions of environmental change. He also looks into indigenous peoples' adaptation mechanisms using indigenous knowledge systems and practices (IKSP) for managing disaster events attributed to natural hazards. In analyzing Philippine IKSPs, he is exploring the application of indigenous peacebuilding and governance mechanisms for better natural resource management outcomes in a climate changed future.
He belongs to two indigenous ethno-linguistic groups from the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), the northern Kankana-ey (or Applai) of Sagada, Mt. Province and the Ibaloi of Bokod, Benguet. In Sagada, he is a member of the Tanggew, a community library and eco-cultural learning and resource center based in barangay Banga-an.
