About Constance's Work

Constance Brouillet holds a degree in environmental engineering from EPFL and is a doctorate candidate at the Landscape and Peri-Urban & Urban Systems, Lab (PLUS, ETH Zürich). Her PhD is part of Future Cities Lab Global project in Antananarivo. The project is situated in the capital of Madagascar, Antananarivo, a city that is simultaneously confronted with ongoing, rapid urbanisation and increase in the frequency and severity of floods and droughts. Its main goal is to co-design efficient, sustainable and socially acceptable blue and green infrastructure.

Her contribution within the project is to explore alternative pathways of landscape transformation and to reflect on their differential capacity to provide the desired ecosystem services to the population (e.g. for food provision, flood regulation, recreation). For this, she uses surveys and participatory tools (serious game) to explore with key actors transformation pathways for peri-urban Antananarivo.

In parallel with her PhD, she is conducting research on the various meanings, values and relationships that people have with rivers. In collaboration with three other researchers, this research aims to raise awareness of the value of rivers and improve their protection.
