About Charles's Work

Charles Kilawe is an Associate Professor, researcher, and consultant in the Department of Ecosystems and Conservation at Sokoine University of Agriculture, Tanzania. He holds a double-degree PhD in Forestry and Geography from the Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management, University of Copenhagen. His PhD research focused on forest management and community engagement, particularly on sustainable farming practices in Tanzania specifically in terms of protecting soils, enhancing forest management, and protecting community livelihoods. Prof. Kilawe has a broad interest in multidisciplinary research, with a primary focus on land-use intensification, landscape ecology, and ecosystem management. Currently, he is researching the socio-ecological impacts of increasing grazing pressure in Miombo woodlands. Additionally, he is collaborating with a Local Implementation Groups to manage invasive tree species and restore degraded ecosystems.
