Carsten Meyer

I am an interdisciplinary researcher with a background in biodiversity science, who works somewhere at the interface between geography, ecology, land-use science, economics, and informatics. I am broadly interested in global human-environment dynamics. I focus mainly on land-use and biodiversity changes, their interrelations and trade-offs, and their socioeconomic causes. I embrace digital technology as a way of addressing data, theoretical, Simulation Modelling (ABM/Predictive/Economic modelling), and philosophical challenges in interdisciplinary science. My research uses quantitative and computational approaches to analyze large datasets (incl. qualitative) and commonly transcends multiple scales or organizational levels (e.g., spatial, temporal, institutional, political). As of November 2016, I am leading the research group “Macroecology & Society” at the German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv) in Leipzig, Germany.
