About Carlos's Work

I am a Biologist graduated from San Carlos University in Guatemala, where I have worked in Landscape Ecology from the decadal to the millennial temporal scales, by using ecological and paleoecological indicators.  I am interested in the collaboration between different knowledge systems as a means to strengthen the understanding and explanation of reality with the purpose of fostering local processes compatible with sovereignty and the Living Well approach.  I completed a M.Sc. degree in Rural Development at El Colegio de la Frontera Sur in Mexico, a M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Physical Geography at the University of Toronto, and a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Center for Tropical Paleoecology and Archaeology in the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama.  Since 2011, I have been coordinating a research group centered in Guatemala with the participation of national international collaborators, known as the Earth Sciences and Local Sovereignty Research Group.
