About Aye Chan's Work
I am a land system scientist with a background in forest science and environmental management. I am strongly interested in land system dynamics, changes in socio-ecological systems, forest and biodiversity governance, and political ecology of land transitions. I have field research experiences and working experiences in Southeast Asia and Australia. In my research, I have applied mixed research methods such as GIS, Earth Observation/Remote Sensing, Participatory Action Research tools, interviews, and economic valuation methods for valuing ecosystem services. I am currently a PhD candidate at the Wyss Academy for Nature at the University Bern, Switzerland. My current research focuses on the impacts of conservation policy on local socio-ecological systems in northern Laos.
