About Avijit's Work
I am Dr. Avijit Sahay, Head of the Department of Geography at Doon University, Dehradun. My research focuses on slow-onset hazards, urban geography, disaster governance, and the application of geospatial technologies to socio-environmental challenges, particularly in the Global South. I have worked extensively on issues such as riverbank erosion, climate-induced displacement, and disaster risk in the Indian Himalayas, advocating for greater policy attention to neglected hazards. I have previously served at IIT Bombay and currently lead nationally and internationally funded research projects while promoting interdisciplinary research, advanced geoinformatics, and innovation in geography teaching and research.
