About Arun Kumar's Work

Hailing from a Geoinformatics background, I am currently serving as a Geospatial Analyst at ICAR-National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning (ICAR-NBSS & LUP), Nagpur, Maharashtra.

Going to my educational background, I graduated from the University of Kerala with a Bachelor's degree in Geography. Along with my studies, I worked in the Naval Wing of the National Cadet Corps for two years and achieved a C certificate. My quest for knowledge motivated me to obtain two separate post-graduation degrees, one in Geography from Kannur University in 2016 and an M.Tech. in Geoinformatics from Bharathidasan University in 2018.

In 2020, my first refereed article was published in a peer-reviewed journal, which was later recognized for the Young Achiever Award-2020 by the Institute of Scholars (InSc) and the Outstanding Paper Award for Young Scientists-2022 by the Committee on Space Research (COSPAR). Since then, I have presented research papers at National and International conferences and have published seven peer-reviewed articles in reputed journals and contributed to chapters in two different books.

My research interest is inclined toward using Earth Observation/Remote Sensing and GIS applications for improvements in the agriculture sector; soil-landscape Simulation Modelling (ABM/Predictive/Economic modelling); groundwater Simulation Modelling (ABM/Predictive/Economic modelling); disaster monitoring and Regional (subnational) planning for agricultural development. I am also involved in designing and developing soil information systems along with natural resource management. My current research is based on spatial Simulation Modelling (ABM/Predictive/Economic modelling) for the delineation of Agro-Ecological Zones (AEZs) of India using Earth Observation/Remote Sensing based datasets.
