K.S. Anoop Das, PhD : A Biosketch
Dr. K.S. Anoop Das, is currently serving as the Head and Assistant Professor at the Centre for Conservation Ecology and the Department of Zoology at MES Mampad College (Autonomous). Dr. Anoop Das holds several prestigious visiting positions: he is a Visiting Scientist at the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research (WSL) in Switzerland, a Visiting Faculty at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland, and a Visiting Professor at the Leshan Normal University, China. Additionally, he is the Adjunct Scientist of the Wildlife Research and Conservation Trust (WRCT) in Kerala, India, and an active member of the IUCN/SSC South Asian Invertebrate Specialist Group and the International Union for Biological Sciences, France apart from 25 other memberships across the globe. Throughout his career, Dr. Anoop Das has guided several Ph.D. students and contributed significantly to the biodiversity conservation.
Dr. Anoop Das has received 31 national and international awards and grants recognizing his contributions to conservation biology and ecology. His work has been supported by notable organizations such as the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund, Wildlife Trust in New York, United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), IDEA WILD (USA), and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). He has also been awarded full scholarships to present his work at international conferences and workshops held in various countries, including Germany, the USA, China, and Malaysia. His international experience is further enriched by training and participation in numerous prestigious programs, including those hosted by Cambridge University, Leicester University, the UNEP-EPLC, US Fish & Wildlife Service, California Academy of Sciences, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He has also contributed to international discussions and workshops on marine biology, environmental sustainability, and biodiversity conservation, underlining his global perspective and commitment to environmental leadership.
In addition to his extensive research work, Dr. Anoop Das has been honored regionally for his significant contributions. Notably, he was awarded the Dr. C. Chandrasekharan Memorial Award in 2012 for the best young scientist in Kerala by the Kerala Forest Research Institute and the Best Biodiversity Researcher in the State Award in 2015 by the Kerala State Biodiversity Board. His dedication to zoological research is also reflected in his prolific academic output. Dr. Anoop Das has published 24 papers in peer-reviewed journals, authored or co-authored over 64 proceedings and other publications, and contributed to more than 500 reports, making significant contributions to the field of zoology, particularly in biodiversity and conservation.
