About Ana Cristina's Work
Ana Cristina Costa is a lecturer and researcher at NOVA IMS since 1998. Currently, she is Associate Professor, and Adjunct Associate Dean for Quality. She has a degree in Mathematics with specialization in Statistics (Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, Universidade Nova de Lisboa), a master in Statistics and Information Management (NOVA IMS), and a Ph.D. in Engineering Sciences (Technical University of Lisbon) in 2009. She coordinated and taught several curricular units in the areas of statistics, geostatistics and computing, as well as short courses. The main research area is spatial statistics, in particular the modeling of spatial-temporal phenomena through geostatistical methodologies. She has more than sixty peer-reviewed publications, including articles in scientific journals and international conference proceedings. She has participated in several national and international R&D projects. Her contribution to most projects was the development of statistical and geostatistical analyses and methods, as well as the transfer of knowledge to developing countries. She coordinated the GSIMCLI project, funded by FCT (Portuguese Science Foundation), in which a geostatistical simulation method was proposed to evaluate and improve the quality of spatial-temporal data, in particular that of climatic elements.
