About Alma Patricia's Work

PhD in Rural Development, Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana - Xochimilco. Conahcyt Researcher, commissioned to CIESAS Pacífico Sur. My research interests include how community-owned universities as devices for caring, producing and defending the territories. I include both environmental and social issues and the relationship between both - as socioecological systems. I focus especially in recovering the experience of indigenous peoples with their territories, for productive, management, and organisational purposes, in order to create resilience and sustainability. I do the research with an intergenerational and gender-conscious approach. I collaborate with educational projects, such as the Ayuuk Intercultural Higher Institute (ISIA) and Uni-Xhidza, the Autonomous Communal University of Santa María Yaviche and the Autonomous Communal University of Oaxaca (UACO). I am also a member of the UNESCO Chair on Higher Education, Indigenous Peoples and Afro-descendants.
