About Albrecht's Work

Agroecology and agrobiodiversity in Laos: Since 2021, I have coordinated national and regional projects on agroecology and agrobiodiversity in the Mekong Region. As part-time team member of CDE’s Laos office, I support local initiatives and capacity building. A key achievement during this period is the second Mekong State of Land Report, for which I acted as lead editor of a special issue in the Journal of Land Use Science. A second achievement is the development of a digital knowledge platform in Laos aiming to raise awareness about the importance of agrobiodiversity (www.phakhaolao.la).

Leading International Research: From 2013 to 2020, I served as co-principal investigator for 2 SNSF projects on sustainable biomass energy and invasive plant species in eastern Africa. These projects involved international collaboration, capacity development, and student training. As coordinator for the ERA-ARD Bioenergy in Africa project (2009-2012), I ensured collaboration across 15 institutions. Finally, I coordinated the SDC-funded Eastern and Southern Africa Partnership Programme (ESAPP) from 2006 to 2012. My personal focus was on spatial analysis e.g., the development of an urban information system and the production of an atlas of ancestral territories in Kenya.

Photography: Since 2019, I am trying to develop my skills as a photographer, focusing mainly on street, nature, and documentary photography. Some of my images will be posted here on LinkedIn, others can be seen on Flickr (https://www.flickr.com/photos/albrecht_ehrensperger/) and I will soon publish an own web portfolio.
