Call for Expressions of Interest Host or Support the Global Land Programme International Programme Office
The Global Land Programme (GLP) is an international research network for land system science. For more than 20 years, GLP has advanced understanding of land as a coupled human–environment system and supported research and action toward sustainable and just land systems. Today, GLP connects more than 3,000 members in over 110 countries through working groups, nodal offices, an early-career network, open science meetings, synthesis activities, and partnerships at the science–policy–practice interface. GLP is a Global Research Network (GRN) of Future Earth.
Following the conclusion of current U.S.-based grant support amid major changes in U.S. government funding priorities, the GLP Scientific Steering Committee invites expressions of interest from institutions or consortia anywhere in the world to host or contribute to the next phase of the GLP International Programme Office (IPO). Universities, research institutes, academies, international organizations, funders, and other mission-aligned organizations are welcome to apply.
GLP remains fully open to a comprehensive hosting arrangement, as established in Switzerland in 2016 and the United States in 2023. We also welcome joint, distributed, or partial expressions of interest. An institution may, for example, support a particular staff position or percentage of a position, provide a regional or functional hub, contribute administrative or digital infrastructure, or fund specific operating costs. GLP may combine complementary offers from multiple institutions into a distributed IPO model.
The ideal host or partner will have an international profile in land system, sustainability, or related human–environment research and a strong commitment to international scientific collaboration. Hosting or supporting the IPO offers an opportunity to assume a visible leadership role in the global land system science community, strengthen international partnerships, and help shape emerging scientific priorities. In return, participating institutions must commit meaningful financial, staffing, infrastructure, or in-kind resources to coordinate the GLP community.
