Dr. Rafael Bernardi is an Adj. Professor at the Department of Ecology and Environmental Management (CURE, University of the Republic, Uruguay). He is an environmental engineer (UdelaR, Uruguay) with a Masters of Environmental Management (Yale, USA) and a PhD. in ecology (Wageningen University, NL).
His lines of work are ecological transitions, with a focus on the transitions between forests and grasslands, their socio-ecological drivers and the implications for ecological restoration. He also Works on environmental policy and management, with a focus on environmental planning and science-policy interfaces.
He has working experience with the United Nations, the IUCN, and as an advisor to the Government of Uruguay, among other instiutions. He coordinated the realization of Uruguay’s first national environmental plan for sustainable development (2019).
