Dr Milind Pimprikar, a “Global citizen”, is an influential network builder connecting the “haves” and “have-nots”, and visionary with a proven track record of transitioning emerging innovative technologies into successful products / systems valued over $500M, for humanity’s collective safety, security and prosperity. Milind is Executive Chairman of CANEUS (Canada-Europe-US-Asia-Africa) Network, he founded in 1999 to serve the socio-economic, safety needs of the global ocean and maritime community, by fostering coordinated development of emerging science-based innovative solutions. Milind also serve as Chairman of Advanced R&D Centre on Micro-Nano and Space Technologies for societal applications, he established at Montreal, Canada in 1992, following my related PhD research. Milind found this niche, when he chaired the 1st International Symposium on “Design of Space Station”, emphasizing the need and role of international collaboration. Milind was recognized as “Person of National Interest” by the Governor in Council. Over the years, from next-generation micro-nanotechnologies to paradigm-busting small satellites for maritime ocean monitoring, Milind’s initiatives have created and captured new “Disruptive Markets” to address national, regional and Global socio-economic Needs. In 2010, Milind created a Global initiative “CSSP” “Collective Safety, Security and Prosperity, which was launched in Italy with participation of 58+ countries to develop a “Low-Cost Internationally Shared Space-based Data System” to support monitoring of oceans, seas, and marine resources. Later, during 2011-17, he demonstrated the CSSP initiative in various regions worldwide, including in least developed countries and small island developing States. Milind has contributed to UN-TAM (Technology Advisory Missions) in Asia, Africa, and Americas for 15+ years; and led the CANEUS-UNDRR Sendai Framework partnership in 2015 to "develop new Global Framework for sharing of space technology and data standards to serve Nation's disaster management needs. Milind is founding Member of UNFCCC Resilience frontiers and recently, he was invited to lead emerging technologies at the UN Secretary General's Indigenous Climate Initiative held at the UN Climate Summit 2019, wherein he created a global initiative to improve living conditions for Indigenous Populations using Earth Observation data. This initiative was successfully showcased at UNFCCC's COP25 This initiative is currently being further advanced in collaboration with GEO (Group on Earth Observation) and several UN Indigenous Organizations such as FILAC and representatives of Conservation International to develop focused “land management” capacity building / training programs.. During 2018-19, Milind led a joint CANEUS-UN initiative “My Planet My Future (MPMF): Space for Sustainability” (www.mpmf2030.org), showcased at UNHQ in NY during HLPF 2018 and UNSG Climate Summit in Sept 2019. Milind is Permanent Observer Member of UN COPUOS (Committee on Peaceful Uses of Outer Space), and Donor to UN to support DRR and SDG initiatives www.caneus.org/undrr
