Prof. Jianchu XU is currently working at World Agroforestry Center as principal scientist and regional coordinator of East and Central Asia Region. He is also distinguished professor, Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences; distinguished professor, Institute of Animal Sciences of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences; former Head of Water and Hazards at the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development in Kathmandu and former Director of the Center for Biodiversity and Indigenous Knowledge, a NGO based in Southwest China for working with indigenous people for cultural survival. He has obtained a PhD in Soil Science from China Agriculture University. He has strong background in interdisciplinary research. Dr. Xu is an internationally respected leading ethnoecologist who works in coupled human environmental systems. His current research includes investigation of early warning signals of global change, transboundary water governance, landscape restoration, ecosystem services and their resilience, agroforestry, and integrative conservation. Professor Xu has published over 100 papers in high impact journals including Nature, Science, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Conservation Biology, Fungal Diversity and Frontiers in Ecology and Evolution.
