Antonio has expertise in remote sensing and GIS technology, and climate change. He has consolidated work in environmental impact assessment in mountain land use systems. Previous work focused the monitoring of land cover/use change using satellite data; the development of models assessing biodiversity condition; the detection of forest change and quantification of carbon stocks and carbon emissions; the detection of changes in cropland and pastures; the modelling of fire weather danger; the development of climate change scenarios. The final goal was to support decision, sustainable development and transitions into sustainability of agroforestry mountain communities.
He has performed research and consulting in the mountain agroforestry systems of Europe (Portugal, Italy) and Africa (Angola, Madagascar).
