Caroline is a PhD candidate at Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources Department at UFMG (Brazil) and IRI THESys under the umbrella of the “Water security for Whom” project (Water security for whom? – Social and material perspectives on inequality around multipurpose reservoirs in Colombia – IRI THESys (iri-thesys.org)). And is also an Consultant at Amazon Environmental Research Institute (IPAM) in Brazil.
She has a degree in Business Administration and Environmental Engineering, with a master’s in Modelling and Analysis of Environmental Systems. Before her PhD, she was working in research institutes linked to Universities and in NGOs, together with farmers and official agencies, especially in the Brazilian Legal Amazon and Atlantic Forest. There she developed spatial, statistical and econometric models to identify and predict deforestation, forest
restoration and suitable agricultural areas. In the last years, she worked in projects that aimed improve cattle ranching and agricultural systems (intensification, technical assistance, etc.), and remunerate the farmers persurplus native vegation and carbon stocks.
Caroline also collaborated in the creation and analysis of public policies related to the protection of natural resources. Her research interests are: Land and water use changes around infrastructures; Agri-food systems transitions and Sustainable Food Value Chains and Policies and financial mechanisms to protect and restoring forest (PES, REDD+).
