Healthy social–ecological systems in mountains are essential for reducing disaster risk and achieving sustainable development globally. This focus issue illuminates the complex interconnections between hazards, vulnerabilities, disaster risk management, and resulting impacts in mountains. Based on insights from the Himalayas, the Andes, Iceland, Japan, and Saint Vincent, its articles chart ways of reducing disaster risk and fostering partnerships among stakeholders.
