NERC will be inviting proposals to its Strategic Capital Call from 25 August 2020. This call will fund proposals for (1) strategic equipment or (2) development of built infrastructure that creates a new research capability. Assets funded through the call will allow the research community to deliver world-class and cutting-edge environmental science, generate exciting scientific discovery and build on effective and efficient capability to sustain and enhance high quality, world-leading research.
Proposals for this call will only be considered if there is sufficient evidence that the proposed asset aligns with the NERC environmental science remit and meets NERC’s essential criteria for capital investment. Guidelines for capital funding can be found here.
A total of up to £10M will be made available through this call. Applicants may request capital funding between £500K and £1.5M; applicants requesting more than £1M must obtain approval from NERC before submission. Resource will not be funded. Successful proposals will be awarded at 100% of the cost of the proposed capital asset.
Applications are welcome from eligible research organisations. Eligible institutions may submit a maximum of two proposals with a total combined value not exceeding £2m. In such instances, only one proposal may be for built infrastructure.
